Little Luna has all her adult teeth now, and puppy toys and typical bones are not lasting whatsoever. Actually the bone thing was getting bad — she is able to easily tear apart large chunks. Her need to chew was unfulfilled — we caught her getting after a large cord the other day, something she’d been good about never touching previously.
So I gave this antler thing a try. Holy crap she loves it. Now I can finally get some chores done around here again without crating her.
Moment of honesty: puppies are a huge pain in my ass.... But she is cute.

My dog chewed through toys that were labeled as “chew proof”, so i know how you feel. We gave her bully sticks and those usually lasted a day so we could actually get stuff done

My dog was the same way, but instead of cords she loved shoes. The little booger a few before she finally stopped. It was hard to be mad at her because other than that she was a good girl, and she's so adorable.

My pit/pointer gets moose racks. He also loves this thing:

He destroyed nearly everything else. He loves sticks. I could market him as the world’s cutest mulch maker.

My old dog Mora would destroy Kong toys. We sent more than one in for a replacement. Nobody could believe a Labrador could do that.

What’s the Antler thing?
Lloyd isn’t a chewer but he does get bored.

If he’s a power chewer, most things won’t last for him. The antler is one of the best things you could have gotten him. Yeah, they are expensive, but they’re also pretty durable.
Another thing you may want to try is the Kong Extreme line of toys. I have a power chewing pitbull who’s had one of these for five years now. Best thing to do is stuff them full of pb/yogurt/cottage cheese/kibble and freeze it. It will keep the dog entertained for a few hours. Here’s a few ideas on what to stuff a Kong with:

It’s literally an antler of some small mammal. I threw away the wrapper so I dunno which one.

The only toys that Coal has leftover from his young days are a couple of Nylabones and an odd rubber ball with feet. The larger of the two bones has been gnawed about halfway down over the years.

Hooves are great too, but have a greater tendency to stink. The trade off is that they’re hollow so you can stuff them with peanut butter and whatnot.

My dog has a dog bed like that. She ripped all the foam out of one side. Then after I cleaned it up, she attacked the trashbag and ripped all the foam out of it again (it’s now littering my floor, I’ve learned my lesson, never clean anything). She also ate a bunch of the stitching which then got stuck in her butt and needed to be pulled out by hand.
She’s not even a puppy, so I don’t know what her excuse is.

Usually deer antler. You can find others. They last longer than typical bones.

I was pondering that. Lloyd is good at sniffing out “Sheds”. I don’t want him nomming down on them.

Not bad for them. Some dogs find them naturally. Some people train dogs to find them. Gotta watch to make sure they're not too small.

They sell for good money too. People make Lamps and Chandeliers and all types of crazy stuff out of them. Back in Iowa I could make around $100/month just by picking up what he sniffed out.

I have a dog that would do great at it. She has a crazy good nose for a non hound. I used to throw her ball into woods with her back turned. I’d tell her “go find” and she’d find it in no time. She's out of practice now.

Yup. Sounds about right. It'll pass. Just keep up with training and staying consistent. Some move quicker through this phase than others.

My one year old pit that we adopted is a helacious chewer and most toys won’t last more than an hour with her. The one we found that actually held up a bit was a Kong Jumbler ball. She went nuts for the the thing and it actually held up for about a month and a half before she got it open. It’s been a few months and the outer shell is now in two pieces but she still actually will play with it strangely enough. I need to go get another soon. A warning though, it does squeak if that annoys you. I didn’t mind as it was worth the slight nusiance to see her bouncing around and having fun with the ball.

I’ve gone out of practice with Lloyd too. He’s a birddog mostly but he can find anything. What’s your dog?

No you sound like a good dog owner, Luna just may be a mix that is harder to train, that does happen. I got lucky with my dog, and she is an Aussie, which I believe are more obedient dogs.

She’s a mutt. Her mom was a pit mix and we’re confident she has catahula in her and likely some lab but we have no idea really.
